The emotional last step of our journey brings us to Tanzania.

With its melting pot of African, European and Arabic cultures, a big finish is assured!

Tanzania Fast Facts:
Best Thing: A lioness hunts zebra, while her adorable cubs frolic beside us
Worst Thing: Legendary Mt. Kilimanjaro - right before us but blanketed in impenetrable fog
Big Surprise: Robert getting a terrible insect infection...BEFORE flying to Africa
Fun Fact: Zanzibar is the birthplace of flamboyant Queen legend Freddy Mercury.

Something's Afoot

London's favourite cowboy - Robert "call me Rob" Marshall - arrived to party it up in east Africa.

Bizarrely, a mysterious insect bit him before he left London, causing his ankle to swell to the size of a watermelon.

Small children ran screaming as his wildly distended appendage lumbered into view.

Nyama Choma

The Kenyan national dish - a grilled leg of goat.

Not bad at all, but don't let the eager chef convince you to try the intestine appetizer or the goat brain dessert...

Serengeti Safari

In our trusty jeep, we crossed the endless savannah of the Serengeti with friends Robert and Angie.

The daily dramas of the wild 'circle of life' unfolded before our eyes.

Crouching Angie, Hidden Foot

Angie displays her mastery of the 'Cone Hair' school of martial arts.

Martial Maasai Mysticism

The famous Ngorongoro Crater has supported both man and big game animals for millions of years.

Men of the local Maasai tribe must go out and kill a lion to be accepted as a warrior. Those who return alive are initiated through an hypnotic, airborne dance.

The Cradle Of Mankind

Footsteps in Olduvai Gorge are dated to 3.4 million years ago, the earliest evidence of our ape-like ancestors walking on two feet.

This is where it all began!

A Bush Bonanza

In the magnificent Serengeti, we saw it all: suckling zebra foals, a two-headed giraffe(!), jousting bull elephants, pregnant cheetahs, hunting lions and tree-bound leopards.

We need never watch a Discovery Channel special again.

Hardcore Hiking (London-Style)

In the Usambara mountain range, Robert gets his first experience of trekking.

He clambered manfully to the top of the peak but, like a true Londoner, called a cab to zip him back down the other side!

Off The Beaten Path

As we strolled from village to village along hillside dirt tracks we met local families, tried their indigenous food and, of course, made friends with countless inquisitive kids along the way.

Time For A Nap

After a week of pre-dawn safaris and mountain treks, it was time...for.......a.....quick...na.....p zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The Dhow Is Up

Our final, final stop - the spice island of Zanzibar.

Dhow boats plough the warm waters between Tanzania and Zanzibar as they have for centuries, transporting Arabic spices to the African continent.

Robert's Idea Of A Holiday

A book, a hammock, a beach - finally Robert looks completely content...

In The Danger Zone

I Don't Care If It's A Rare Red Colobus Monkey: Take The Picture Before It Poops On Me!

Thank Goodness For That Guitar!

Robert is overcome with joy (and piña colada) at leaving steep mountain paths and revolutionalized-automotive-websites far behind.

Donning his celebratory birthday suit, he croons his way through the night, to the dismay of his room-mates.

Stone Town

The winding streets of Stone Town are filled with the sultry, spicy mix of African and Arabian food and cultures.

The timeless ambience is a great place to pause and reflect back on our journey across 4 continents, through a myriad of cultures and places.

The End?

Eventually, we had to bite the bullet and travelled home.

And what better place to land than the Bakersfield branch of the Tourney construction empire?!

Now it's back to 'ordinary' life, steady jobs and perhaps just a little day-dreaming about a future expedition - perhaps to the South Sea Pacific...
