Our Mission
This section of the site chronicles our adventures as we travel for 15 months from the Arctic Circle to Antarctica and then across south-eastern Africa, finishing in July 2007.

The purpose: to learn about the lands, cultures and peoples of the Americas and Africa in an epic expedition.

Making A Contribution: Volunteering
We intend to volunteer as we travel. Some of the most amazing places on Earth suffer from terrible environmental degradation and social depravation. Working to protect fragile ecosystems and relieve human suffering will in a small way help to sustain planet's incredible diversity.

Global Warming: Carbon Offsetting
Traveling overland using local transport where possible will minimize our environmental impact as we travel. In addition, we plan to carbon offset any flights we need to take as part of this trip as a first step to understanding better how to live a carbon neutral life, minimizing our contribution to Global Warming.

Responsible Travel
Taking local transport accords with the principles of responsible travel - basically trying to put money in the hands of local people, not large tourist companies. Becoming schooled in local languages (particularly Spanish) allows a deeper interaction with local people.

The MagnusAndCheryl Credo
This way we can better understand the state of our world, share those insights through our website, make a contribution in developing countries and, of course, have incredible experiences and fun along the way!

The key thing for us is to raise awareness of how wonderful, diverse and fragile the world is, and our shared responsibility as humans to look after it and each other, no matter where we live.

Updates to the site will be posted every week or two, so check in once in a while and let us know your news.
