This Is Africa - a byword for the different set of rules for doing business that seem to apply here.

We arrived at Lake Malawi to run a programme introducing computer fundamentals to local teachers. The effort took an early setback: the organizer of the charity we worked with had just been deported to Mozambique having been caught smoking a joint!

Soldiering on we spent half a day trying to locate the key to the "computer room", eventually breaking into a dusty cupboard that held a vintage Mac and a laptop that screeched "Hard Drive Failure" when turned on.

Nevertheless, we managed some good sessions with the teaching staff but constantly wrestled with the disruption of people turning up hours - or even days! - late for appointments.

When we get to Uganda we will spend a solid couple of months working on a new business venture where we should help teach I.T. skills, create jobs and reduce deforestation, all while working on something called the "Rocket Stove"!

More of this futuristic-sounding venture later!
