Tales from the Amazon Friday, March 08, 2007 For days we navigated the Amazon in dugout canoes searching for the elusive jaguar, anaconda and pink dolphin. The biggest surprise, however, came when trekking deep in the jungle, an ear-shredding shriek came from behind us. It was Cheryl. I struggled back through the thick foliage, cursing that i didn't have a machete handy as my hands tore on the razorsharp palm edges. Bursting into a clearing, I was dumbstruck, as Cheryl stood in the middle of the Amazon with her trousers round her ankles, bouncing up and down squeaking. With our friend Cheist in close attendance this could easily be misconstrued but apparently a huge black spider had crawled up her trouser leg, requiring emergency de-robing...
